Myths that break people
A short list of sentences that sound clean and fail in weather.

“Index funds cannot fall.” They fall when the index falls. That is the contract.
“Rent is always dead money.” Rent is flexibility. A house is shelter plus maintenance plus a large illiquid bet. Run both pictures. Do not let a slogan pick your city.
“I will earn 18% like that reel.” Some years look like that. Plans that *need* it are fragile.
“I must pick stocks to be free.” Many independent households own baskets. Stock picking is optional homework, not a gate.
“Insurance is a waste if I am investing.” Insurance is a fence. Investing is a garden. A hospital can still win.
“FIRE means I hate work.” Independence is optionality. Hate is a different problem.
“My number is secret so I don’t need nominees or a letter.” The people you love still need a map.
**Note:** If a sentence makes planning unnecessary, it is probably a myth.
Where it breaks

- You do not need stock picking to seek independence.
